Best practices

Number of elements

  • Minimum: 3 elements
  • Optimal: 4-6 elements
  • Maximum: 8 elements (above becomes too difficult)

Element content

  • Short, concise descriptions
  • Similar length for all elements
  • Unambiguous order (no debatable positions)

Examples

Good example

Question: Arrange the stages of a butterfly’s life cycle in correct order.
  1. Egg
  2. Caterpillar
  3. Pupa
  4. Butterfly

Bad example

Question: Arrange countries by size.
  1. Russia
  2. Canada
  3. USA/China (similar size - debatable!)
Avoid elements with similar values where order might be debatable.
