Description

Open-ended questions let participant write their own text response up to 1000 characters. No automatic grading - all responses are collected for later review.

When to use

  • Questions requiring justification
  • Collecting ideas and opinions
  • Reflective questions
  • Creative tasks
  • End-of-session feedback
  • “What do you think about…?” questions

Creating a question

Scoring

Open-ended questions have no automatic scoring. Responses are collected and available in session report for manual review.

Disable penalty for purely reflective questions where no answer is acceptable.

Reviewing responses

After quiz ends, responses are available:
  1. In session report - list of all responses
  2. In Excel export - column with responses
  3. In detailed review - responses per participant

Best practices

Formulating questions

  • Ask open questions (not yes/no)
  • Provide hints on what to include (e.g., “describe 3 things”)
  • Specify expected response format

Time

  • Short reflection: 60 seconds
  • Detailed answer: 120-180 seconds
  • Creative task: up to 300 seconds

When NOT to use

  • Questions with single correct answer (use “Fill in blank”)
  • When you need automatic grading
  • In large groups (many responses to review)
